Attendance

Attendance Line: 268 – 3961 ext. 27107

By Law, students are required to be in school everyday unless excused by parent or physician not to exceed 10 days per school year.  At Wilson Middle School, we expect our students to be on time and attend school daily.  It is the responsibility of the parent to notify the school on the day of or before their child’s absence.  If a student is leaving during the school day, they will ONLY be released to a parent, legal guardian or authorized emergency contact.  It is very important that the name and phone number of all identified persons are current and documented on ALL school registration information and up dated as necessary.  Photo identification is required when checking a student out of school.

*To minimize classroom disruptions, students will not be released after 2:30 p.m.  Students will be released at 3:05 p.m.

Our plan to ensure students are in school and receiving the necessary support and services is:

  • 3 Absences: Parent Notification by Advisory Teacher
  • 5 Absences: Parent Conference & Attendance Contract
  • 7 Absences: Referral to school Health and Wellness Team
  • 10 or more:  Referral to District Attendance Office

*If you are son/daughter will be out for several days and are requesting work for your child, you must contact the main office directly.  Teachers will have 24 hours to provide work before it is available for you to pick up in the main office.

APS Attendance Policy

Cell Phones / Personal Electronic Devices

In accordance with APS Cell Phone Policy, cell phone use is restricted and should be avoided by all students during the school day. We do realize, however for safety purposes, some parents require their children to possess a cell phone.

If you feel your student(s) needs to carry a cell phone at school, the cell phone policy is as follows:

  • Phone use will be allowed only before and after the regular school hours. (8:15 a.m. – 3:15 p.m.)
  • Phones should not be visible.
  • Phones must be turned off during school hours.
  • Text messages and or game usage are prohibited.

Consequences:

  • 1st Offense- Returned to student at the end of the day
  • 2nd Offense- Parent is called and the parent can pick up at the end of the day
  • 3rd Offense- Parent is called and the parent can pick up the phone after 7 days
  • 4th Offense- Parent is called and the parent can pick up at the end of the Semester (December & May)
